The following paragraphs will detail both my approach to the current project at hand, as well as my broader philosophy towards spec work in general.

Spec work (short for "speculative work") typically refers to any free work done by a professional before being hired for his or her services. You could compare it to an audition, where you showcase your abilities by creating work speculatively without any financial compensation in the hopes that the client will choose and hire you.

Despite the lack of financial compensation, I believe that the quality of the work produced should remain consistent with the level of quality that I deliver to any paying clients. High-quality spec work reflects my commitment to excellence and demonstrates my willingness to exceed expectations, and that's why I include it here.

Postcard

One of the trickiest parts of the project was getting the service department advertisement to fit seamlessly with the design of the postcard.

Web Banner

The design of the web banner had a slight variation from the initial creative brief, as it was required to integrate a leasing advertisement for a specific model.

Thumbnail Ad

The thumbnail ad also needed to include the leasing ad, but in a significantly smaller space. All the legal disclosures had to be included in the same highly readable format.

The Delivered Package

I created a consistent brand image for various digital platforms: a web banner, postcard, and social media ad as part of an employment audition. Although I was not selected for the position because someone else with prior auto experience got the job, my work was positively received by the hiring team. They praised my ability to adhere to the brand's guidelines while creating a visually-appealing design that would resonate with the intended audience.
